Get Focused America!

This summer and fall VSP will be on the road spreading the word about the importance of annual eye exams through fun exhibits, games, activities and prizes.  The events will also feature VSP’s brand new mobile clinic.

Charlotte, NC

VSP is teaming up with Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC to sponsor the Bank of America 500, part of the NEXTEL Cup series, October 11 – 13. The sponsorship lets VSP spread the word about eye health directly to more than 200,000 race fans through our innovative fan interaction area, public service announcements, and educational exhibits on board our new mobile clinic.

St. Louis, MO

VSP takes off! On Sept. 15, VSP reaches new heights as a sponsor of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race in St. Louis. Our new logo soars through the clouds on a VSP sponsored balloon! Attracting 130,000 attendees, this public event will provide us the opportunity to spread the word about the importance of regular eye exams. We’ll give tours of our new mobile clinic, and passing out educational information. Earlier in the week the mobile clinic will be making a stop at the local Boys and Girls Club, where children will receive eye exams and participate in Sports Vision Drills.

Columbus, OH

VSP Vision Care will host a Get Focused event with the Columbus Clippers on Thursday, July 26, 2007 in Columbus, OH.

Education

Get Focused Classroom Curriculum
Kids learn best when the lessons are fun. To provide educators with a fresh resource to teach about eye health and vision, VSP teamed with Explorit Science Center and the National Eye Institute to develop the Get Focused Curriculum for grades K-6. Fun, interactive activities meet national science standards and provide a hands-on way for kids to learn about the structure and function of the eye, visual conditions and diseases, eye safety and nutrition, optical illusions and more.

Doctor in the Classroom
Based on the Get Focused Curriculum, this program makes it easy for eye doctors to teach kids the ABCs of healthy vision. It includes lesson plans, handouts and teaching tips for eye doctors who volunteer in local schools. The goal of the program is to encourage kids to take care of their vision and instill positive habits that will benefit them in the classroom and throughout their lives.

John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, Houston
VSP and the Houston Health Museum have teamed to bring an adjustable eye exhibit to Houston residents. Housed in the museum's Amazing Body Pavilion, the colossal walk-in eyeball demonstrates how the eyes receive and perceive images.

Newspapers in Education
Students using the newspaper as textbook? That's the approach of Newspapers in Education (NIE), a national, newspaper-operated community relations program that offers newspaper-based resources to teachers on a variety of topics. VSP has worked with several major daily newspapers to develop supplements for classroom use in elementary and middle schools.

Get Focused on Vision NIE classroom supplements have helped thousands of kids learn about vision and the importance of eye health. As part of the program, teachers receive a newspaper for each student in their class with fun, non-textbook based resources for Get Focused vision lessons. Interested? New York Times inserts are available for educational purposes.  Contact us with quantity information and preferred mailing address.

Vision of Science Award with NSTA
This award for teachers, administered by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), is VSP's latest education sponsorship. Target recipients are K-8 elementary educators teaching eye health and vision science lessons that encourage further learning processes, while building connections between students, parents and the school..
